Five A Day

This week we are focusing as a nursery on healthy eating, alongside the launch of our new summer menu.

Today is focusing on getting our Five A Day.

For dinner today the children have tucked into the delicious Fish pie with edamame beans and sweetcorn followed by chocolate and beetroot brownie.

Kate is providing samples and recipes of her amazing puddings starting this week! So make sure you grab yourself a taste of her famous brownie!

The following recipe can be found below:
– 200g of vacuum packed beetroot (drained)
– 250g vegetable oil
– 250g coconut sugar
– 100g molasses sugar
– 3 eggs
– 1 tsp vanilla extract
– 200g plain flour
– 100g cocoa powder
– 100g cacao nibs

Method
– Pre-heat oven to 180C or gas 4
– Blend oil and beetroot together with a hand blender or food processor
– Mix in sugars, eggs and vanilla extract (beat well)
– Stir in flour, cocoa powder and nibs
– Pour mixture into a prepared baking tin
– Bake for 25 minutes (it should be slightly gooey in the centre)
– Let it cool a little and then serve

Along with this, the rooms have also taken part in healthy eating related activities today which will be continuing over the week. Each room is recording with the children how many portions of fruit and vegetables they have eaten throughout the day.

Rooms have also been making their own healthy tea.

Babies and Bear Cubs have enjoyed fruit and vegetable printing, Little Bears have made vegetable muffins and Pre-school have engaged in a food sorting activity into healthy and unhealthy categories.
