Our Nursery

A safe, fun, inspiring place to play and learn

The Old Forge Day Nursery, exterior

Our nursery is owned by Abby who bought the nursery in 2009. Having three children, she fully understand the expectations and needs of parents/carers and care passionately about delivering the best possible childcare.

Set within the quiet, safe and pretty village of Findern, you couldn’t wish for a more idyllic setting for a nursery. The nineteenth century, half timbered building, set within beautiful grounds, looks like something out of a fairy tale and the magic continues when you step inside. You are greeted by an incredible team of fun loving, enthusiastic, highly qualified professionals, who share Abby’s passion to be outstanding within their field and enjoy close and loving relationships with all the children within their care.

All the rooms are bright and colourful and are full of exciting and fun, age appropriate equipment, designed to offer everything your little one needs to feel safe, secure and at home within their surroundings. The nursery is filled with fun and laughter and the children are challenged to maximise their full learning potential, both physically and emotionally – in order to give them the foundations that they need to become well rounded individuals and go on to lead happy, fulfilled and successful lives.

We work very closely with parents/carers to ensure that they feel relaxed and confident that their child is safe and happy and update them with daily pictures and videos of their child playing, learning and achieving.

Choosing the right nursery is a very important decision – please take advantage of our free five hour settling in trial session’s to help decide if our nursery is the right one for you and your little one.

Indoor play

Our bright, open, yet cosy and homely rooms are tailor-made to suit each specific age group. With a variety of equipment to ensure that the children are entertained, engaged and challenged in a safe environment which caters for their every need. The big low bay windows in each room, a gorgeous feature of our fairy tale building, allows the children to look out over The Green and enjoy the lovely pace of village life including the passing tractors and horses.

Outdoor play & Forest School

Aerial view of the garden space at The Old Forge Day Nursery

We spend a huge amount of time outside and have a gorgeous garden for all age groups to enjoy, including sand pits, mud kitchens, Forest School, trim trails, swings, slides and climbing frames, planters for the children to grow their own vegetables, wildlife areas and dens, a playground for cars, bikes and scooters and a huge open grassy area to run around on and enjoy games and picnics!

Big Bears Hobbit Cabin

Big Bears enjoy their own cabin in our extensive grounds. A quirky, wooden, hobbit cabin, there is plenty of space to play, sleep, be creative and relax. Adjacent to the Forest School area we enjoy lots of time outside. We have our own toilets in our cabin, and a large porch area for our coats and shoes.

Quiet village setting & trips out

Trips out to Dobbies Garden centre

We couldn’t have wished for a more idyllic and perfect setting for our nursery. Overlooking The Green where we play games and enjoy watching the passing tractors and horses, we also get to enjoy daily local trips out to the local parks, nature trails along the quiet country lanes, visits to the aquarium at Dobbies Garden Centre and visits to see the boats and wildlife at Willington Mercia Marina. The older children also go on organised bus trips to visit museums and other educational days out.

Meals

Providing healthy, nutritious and delicious food is a huge priority to us. All our food is prepared fresh and on site each day by our chef. Children are encouraged to try all kinds of food and we use meal times as another fun opportunity for the children to develop their social skills and manners. The older children are encouraged to serve themselves and enjoy being ‘special helpers’ giving out puddings and helping to tidy up. See our latest menu here >>

Security

Entrance to the nursery and garden is protected by a secure keypad system and children may only be collected by persons named at registration unless pre-organised by parents/carers on which security details are given. The nursery grounds are also monitored by 24 hour online CCTV surveillance.

Parking

We have our own private car park for parents and carers to drop off and collect their child safely.
